Yakitate!! Japan, Volume 24
As Azuma and Team Pantasia compete in the eleventh round of the "Yakitate!! 25" bread battle, they realize that a reaction to an eggy creation has transformed judge Kuro-yan into Pantasia's archenemy, Kirisaki! Azuma tries buttering him up to roll back the team's imminent defeat, but in the process a shocking truth about their shared history is revealed! A rare type of flour just may soothe the wounds of the past--but will going against the grain help Azuma and his team or just cause more bitter feelings?

Yakitate!! Japan Vol. 25

Azuma and his long-time bread battle partner Kawachi must compete with one another in order to obtain a magical grain called "Dharma." Though he's played the fool all along, Kawachi picks up a handy skill that just might give his creation the edge over his old friend's dutiful dough. Later, the team's former rival Kirisaki cooks up a plan to control the world through his sinfully delicious bread. The fate of the universe hangs in the balance as Azuma works tirelessly to perfect the recipe for his ultimate--and potentially universe-saving--Ja-pan!

Are you trying to read this comic in the wrong direction?

...Gotcha! In keeping with the original Japanese format, manga are meant to be read from right to left, starting in the upper-right corner.

Unlike English, which is read from left to right, Japanese is read from right to left, meaning that action, sound effects, and word-balloon order are completely reversed... something which can make readers unfamiliar with Japanese feel pretty backwards themselves. For this reason, manga or Japanese comics published in the U.S. in English have sometimes been published "flopped" - that is, printed in exact reverse order, as though seen from the other side of a mirror.

By flopping pages, U.S. publishers can avoid confusing readers, but the compromise is not without its downside. For one thing, a character in a flopped manga series who once wore in the original Japanese version a T-shirt emblazoned with "MAY" (as in "the merry month of") now wears one which reads "YAM"! Additionally, many manga creators in Japan are themselves unhappy with this process, as some feel the mirror-imaging of their art skews their original intentions.

We are proud to bring you manga presented in the original unflopped format. For now, though, click to the left and let the adventure begin...!
